Weisler Dances his way to Victory Lane
|
O.k. so maybe it wasn't as easy as that but how often do you get a race shot were
the driver looks like he is doing the hokie pokie? Well on Friday night thats just
what we got as Marty Weisler in his 2009 Hot Rod Chassis pulled his car to victory
lane and got out ready to celebrate his first main event victory.
Twenty seven cars showed up on Friday night only to be welcomed by the track
officials and summoned to the white tent. In an attempt to clean up the division and
provide a cleaner and better show for the paying fans, Ocean Speedway officials now
call all the on track judgements for the B.A.D. traveling association and it took little
time for them to start laying down the law.
The evening kicked off with three eight lap heat races to see which cars would
qualify for the nights main even. John Prentice of Aptos won the first as Ryan
Ameln and Nick Squatritto won the second and third heats. This set up the first
fifteen cars for the twenty two car A main event. The remainder of the spots were
filled from a B main or last chance race with the top six from the B transferring to
the back of the field for the A Main. Ernie Davila held off a late charge from Duane
Daniels to capture the race and assure himself of a transfer.
As the twenty two car field took the green, Marty Weisler stepped out in the lead
from his front row starting spot and began to put some distance between himself
and the charging pack. On the second lap as the field exited turn two Nick
Squatritto took over the lead closely followed by Weisler, Prentice and Gilbert Toste.
Coming to the flag to complete lap four Prentice now had the lead but was closely
followed by Squatritto, Toste, and Weisler. Mid way through the scheduled twenty
lap main event Prentice and Toste were one two, as Prentice came out of turn two,
he and Toste got together leaving Prentice spun to the infield. The track now laying
down the law determined that it was rough driving and gave the points leader the
black flag now putting Squatritto into the lead with Weisler right behind him. The
two battled it out for the final seven laps until Weisler was able to past Squatritto
and pick up his first win and become the third second year driver to notch a victory
this season. Rounding out the top ten were Squatritto, Gene Pires, Ameln, Robert
Mesloh, Camron Diatte, Mark Biscardi, Terry Rothweiler, Greg Penny, and Shawn
Jones.
With the new roll the track will play in the rest of the season, the track, fans, and
the drivers got what we all had been hoping for, Good racing, with very few cautions
and long green flag racing.
